Blezzing Dada Honoured with the IACP Public Inspiration Award

The Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy has honoured mental health activist and advocate Blezzing Dada of Dublin with the 2024 Public Inspiration Award.

Blezzing Dada’s inspiring advocacy work highlights issues around mental health for the chronically ill, disabled individuals, and people living in vulnerable communities in Ireland.

Speaking today of the Public Inspiration Award honouree, Lisa Molloy, IACP’s Chief Executive Officer stated:

“A huge congratulations to Blezzing Dada for her inspirational achievements to spread awareness of the benefits of mental health supports through empathy and education. By sharing her lived experiences she helps bring attention to the needs of diverse populations and how everyone deserves to be treated with humanity and inclusivity when seeking mental health care.”

Ms Dada is a multiple award-winning Black-Irish mental health writer, and the recipient of Headline’s Special Recognition Category in 2019, named as SpunOut Young Mental Health Changemaker 2022, Intercultural EPIC Award for AMDA in 2023, winning Community Star of the Year at the Inaugural Black & Irish Gala Awards in 2021 and recently again in December of 2023. She is a content creator/blogger on social media, who is an outspoken passionate activist on various social justice issues, especially on the intersectionality of mental health awareness.

Blezzing Dada commented following accepting the award:

“I’m so humbled and honoured to be publicly recognised for my intersectional work in the mental health space, the last number of years. Without ignoring the complicated and political realities we face in this world, we can also learn powerful lessons from those who inspire us, that we can use to inspire the people in our lives. And mostly for our inner kid self. I hope I did my inner kid proud. We move throughout 2024 and beyond: with the knowledge that our movements will keep adapting, responding, and rising to the needs of our times. Together, we keep organising in love, care and solidarity.”

The IACP Public Inspiration Award  honours a member of the public who has made an outstanding contribution to the development of the counselling and psychotherapy profession by creating and influencing projects, or by promoting counselling and psychotherapy development work at local and national level.

The Public Inspiration Award nominations are put forward by members of the IACP volunteer committees. Both the Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion and the Supervisor Forums Organising IACP Committees nominated Ms Dada for this year’s award.

The annual awards ceremony was held at the IACP’s 9th Annual Conference on the 20th April 2024 at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Sligo.
