The Gardaí have introduced a new eVetting system which is designed to be easy and straightforward to follow, and will minimise waiting times for applications.
Please be advised that the legal obligations around Garda Vetting are changing due to guidance from the National Vetting Bureau.
Going forward, IACP re-vetting for all members will be required every three years, in-line with reform to The National Vetting Bureau (Children and Vulnerable Persons) Acts 2012-2016.
Following the recommendation from The National Vetting Bureau, the IACP formally adopted re-vetting in the IACP Garda Vetting Policy, which was ratified by the IACP Board in July 2023.
The IACP is responsible for ensuring that the Association provides a safe, secure, and professional service for all stakeholders. It also endeavours to ensure that Garda Vetting is part of a wider process ensuring the protection and safety of all vulnerable members of the community.
The IACP is committed to ensuring all people's safety and welfare attending its accredited Counsellors and Psychotherapists. As a ‘Relevant Organisation’, all of our accredited, pre-accredited and student members (1st-year students exempt) are subject to IACP vetting procedures as part of the accreditation and membership process. IACP Garda Vetting is a condition for IACP membership and non-compliance will result in your membership being revoked.
The IACP commenced Garda Vetting in November 2015.
