Jim Hutton is a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist, holding a BA (Hons.) in Counselling and Psychotherapy and an NUI Diploma in Counselling. He received his first training in counselling at Stanhope St. Alcohol Treatment Centre, Dublin in 1979. Jim specialises in addiction counselling, relationship counselling and gender and sexual diversity (LGBTI+) psychotherapy.
He is the facilitator for BelonG To’s recently opened online group psychotherapy service for young LGBTI+ people and a separate online service for parents of young LGBTI+ folk. He also worked with The Irish Defence Forces ESS initiative nationwide. Jim is the former chair of IACP's Gender & Sexual Diversity Group; is currently a member of the IACP’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee and is vice-chair of the IACP’s North East Regional Committee. He recently retired from working with CDETB’s Youthreach, second chance education centres in Dublin. He also provides webinar training, presentations and workshops in the area of care awareness, addiction issues and gender and sexual diversity.
The theme of this presentation is: -perceptions that can attach to sexuality and gender journey issues and how they may present in the therapeutic space, - how gender and sexuality shapes our language and our communication and relationship with self and others, - a progressive and open hearted approach to our individual, professional and collective part in advancing best practice in this area.
