Present a Workshop: Investigating Aspects of Loss

Presenter Bio: Chris is Clinical Director of the CBT Clinic in Dublin and Cork and has been in  private practice since 1990. His interest in grief and loss began when he undertook a PGDip and MSc in bereavement and loss with the Irish Royal College of Surgeons and Irish Hospice Foundation in 2011. Chris's primary focus is on complicated grief now called Prolonged Grief Disorder as a clinical psychiatric condition in ICD10 and DSM5. Emanating from his clinical work Chris observed grief and loss symptoms in people who had not been bereaved but were still experiencing loss. From there Chris began to study the grief literature on there aspect of loss. Initially the research data was scant to the least, but over time a number of studies began to emerge around grief and loss in divorce with a particular emphasis on children, immigration, dementia, disability and more. The course 'Investigating Aspects of Loss' is based on four years research and study as well as empirical data from his clinical work.

Workshop Outline: This course covers a range of theoretical perspectives placing emphasis on broader aspects of grief as a consequence of other losses, all of which are powerful forces which can shape our lives. The presentation delivery is by way of Powerpoint presentation, experiential and case studies of grief and loss in clinical practice. Aims: To explore meanings and responses in a wide range of loss situations that include; Traumatic Loss. Loss in the context of Separation/Divorce with a particular emphasis on children. Loss as a consequence of Ill Health, Disability including Alzheimer’s/Dementia. A framework to understand the complexities of loss as a consequence of Immigration. The different approaches to loss will be explained and discussed.

Training Level: All Levels.

CPD certificates will be emailed to participants after attendance at the Workshop
