Patricia is a practicing clinical psychotherapist and supervisor with an interest in providing group therapy and facilitation workshops. She works part-time with NCS, HSE, and has a private practice. She works as an integrative psychotherapist with clients presenting with diverse issues. This has been a genuine education for her, and it has been her privilege to learn from each one. She believes that by understanding ourselves better, each of us has the ability to resolve the issues and problems we face in our lives.
She encounters clients who have grappled with shame and have internalized a belief of being fundamentally flawed or unworthy. This pervasive emotion can lead to social withdrawal, emotional suppression, and diminished sense of self-worth. Clients may avoid relationships and vulnerability, fearing judgement and rejection.
When left unaddressed, chronic shame can have profound effects on mental health and behaviour. She sees her work in this area of human living as being special and sacred. She is confident that her approach can be of help to others, and hopes to continue to learn every day from others and yet, also know and acknowledge that so much is, and may remain unknown and uncertain.
This interactive workshop delves into the complex emotion of shame, aiming to provide participants with an understanding of its origins, manifestations and impacts. The workshop uses guided discussions, reflective exercises and evidence-based strategies allowing for exploration of how shame differs from guilt, recognising personal experiences of shame, and learning pathways toward healing and self-compassion.
