SRC - Working with Children in a School Context


Presenters Bio: 

Heather Harris has 25 years of clinical experience working with children and adolescents within school settings around Boston, MA, USA.  She has worked for both public school districts and therapeutic school settings. Heather also has experience working in residential school programs, inpatient and forensic psychiatric hospital units for children/teens, outpatient counselling services, community-based art therapy programmes and emergency departments.  She has worked as an adjunct professor for both counselling/psychology and art/expressive therapy graduate programs as well as provides clinical consultation and supervision to therapists. 

Heather has facilitated international art therapy projects in Ireland many years; working with underrepresented populations including the Irish Travellers, Roma, refugees and asylum seekers.  She has established an arts-based, non-profit organization to expand the services she provides to communities who respond well to non-traditional, intermodal forms of treatment. She is an accredited counsellor in Ireland through the IACP.


Workshop Outline:

Heather will provide a full day workshop exploring the boundaries and dynamics of the provision of counselling and psychotherapy within the school context, exploring emerging practice issues and the use of creative methods of working.
