Presenter Bio: Stefanie Behre is an Accredited Counsellor and Psychotherapist in private practice in Cork. With a background in Social Work she has been working in the area of Domestic Abuse for more than ten years. Stefanie has a special interest in safety measures in relation to domestic abuse, the dynamics of domestic violence and the effects it has on victims. She has vast experience in supporting and treating victims of domestic violence. Stefanie uses a humanistic integrative approach in her private practice. Due to her emphasis in trauma therapy she has also been trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR).
Outline: According to the Domestic Violence Services in Ireland, there has been a steady increase of domestic violence incidents reported within the last few years. This rise in numbers is mirrored in the increased Court Orders being made under the domestic violence legislation.
Domestic Violence is a very complex phenomenon. This workshop will provide information on domestic violence, the cycle of violence and its effects on victims. It will explore options and resources for victims of domestic abuse including practical information, legal options and safety plans.
The main focus of this workshop will be on the therapeutic setting and the special considerations necessary when working with victims of domestic abuse therapeutically. It will give participants the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the issues around domestic violence and its effect on victims. Further, it will provide an opportunity to reflect on dilemmas encountered in the professional context when working with victims of domestic abuse.
