IACP Revised Code of Ethics - Member Consultation

Dear IACP Members,

In September 2014, the Ethics Committee were asked to review, revise and update the IACP Code of Ethics. We are now sending you a working draft revised edition for your critical reflection and feedback.  For ease of comparison, the new working draft is posted alongside the original Code of Ethics.

As you can see, we have kept changes, particularly in format, to a minimum. Such changes are threaded throughout with specific updates in relation to confidentiality, responsibility and competency.

The draft document is a work in progress. Your input is the most important part of what has been a rigorously researched and painstakingly careful, section by section, line by line, process of recalibration.  Your suggestions and comments are thus requested and welcomed as vital to this ongoing process.

We feel strongly that the draft Code be circulated to you for your critique before going to Standards and the Board of Directors so that the Code remains in the active ‘ownership’ of all of us who adhere to it. A similar feedback process will take place at a future date with the Supervision section of the Code.

Both documents are available to download at the links below and in the download section on the left side of this page. If you are viewing from a mobile device, click on the links below.

We would appreciate if you would send your comments, critique and suggestions by email to the Ethics Committee through Liz Gannon (liz@iacp.ie).

The closing date for comments is Friday, 4 December, 2015 at 5pm.

Our thanks in advance,

The IACP Ethics Committee
